This post is the summary of our Ipoh Trip which is a 2 days 1 night trip. Ipoh is a nice city in Perak, Malaysia with its food, natures and historical places. It is one of the very popular Malaysia’s city to visit for a short trip besides Melaka and Sekinchan. Reads on to find out what we did and ate in Ipoh or use this link to view all the Ipoh’s blog posts.
We had an early breakfast at Thean Chun Coffee Shop (天津茶室) on the first day of our Ipoh trip. We reached here as early as 6.30am to avoid the crowd because this classic coffee shop is a very popular tourists’ destination. What is popular here? The “Kai See Hor Fun” aka Chicken Kuey Teow Soup, egg caramel custard, Chee Cheong Fun and Pork Satay are the popular items here.
After breakfast at Thean Chun Coffee Shop (天津茶室), we walked over to Kedai Kopi Nam Chau. Some of us ordered the classic Ipoh Old Town White Coffee while I ordered a cup of traditional milk tea. Excellent cup of milk tea to kick start my day at Ipoh. You can also order the traditional Malaysian breakfast, the toasted bread with soft-boiled egg, curry noodle and other local noodles.
Gunung Lang Recreational Park is our first nature spot in Ipoh after our 2 breakfasts at Thean Chun Coffee Shop (天津茶室) and Kedai Kopi Nam Chau. What to except here? Gunung Lang Recreational Park has a beautiful lake and limestone hills. The park itself is also very nice for a walk in the morning.
After enjoying the nature at Gunung Lang Recreational Park, we went to visit the cave temple of Kek Look Tong Cave Temple (极乐洞). The cave temple here is so beautiful with many Buddha elements and sculptures. There is also an amazing Zen garden behind the cave temple. One of the must visit spot for Ipoh Trip.
For our first day’s lunch during our Ipoh trip, we went to eat Yong Tau Foo at Dai Shu Geok (Big Tree Foot). Dai Shu Geok (Big Tree Foot) not only sells Yong Tau Foo as there are many food stalls as well.
After check into our hotel, De Residence Boutique Hotel, we went to eat tea time at Tong Sui Kai – 糖水街 (Dessert Street). The popular item here is the one in the photo above, the Mixed Fruits ABC with ice cream. (Ais Buah-buahan & Ais Krim). This dessert is definitely one of the best food we ate during our Ipoh Trip. There are many other desserts and food stalls here as well such as Sotong Kangkung and BBQ Clams.
For our Ipoh Trip’s dinner, we ate at Restoran Wah Xing at Jalan Pasir Puteh, Ipoh. This restaurant was actually operating inside Restaurant Peng Tau and is now doing business as Restoran Wah Xing. It is popular for its Foh Yim Pai Kuat (Deep Fried Pork Rib with special sticky sauce).
For our second day of Ipoh Trip, we went to eat dim sum for breakfast at Foh San Dim Sum Restaurant (富山茶楼). This restaurant is a very big dim sum place consists of two floors. We actually wanted to eat at Ming Court Hong Kong Dim Sum but it is just too crowded.
Kellie’s Castle at Batu Gajah is our last destination during our Ipoh Trip. It is a beautiful castle and I don’t think there is such a place in other parts of Malaysia. Definitely a must visit if you love castle or historical places.
