Kakigori is a dessert bar at Taman Paramount, Petaling Jaya. It is located on the same row as Awesome Canteen. We came here for dessert after our dinner at Rakuzen Japanese Restaurant at 3 Damansara. It was indeed a Japanese themed night as we ate Japanese dinner and also Japanese dessert.
We actually visited Kakigori one or two years for their popular Japanese shaved ice dessert. Kakigori actually refers to the Japanese shaved ice dessert flavoured with syrup and sweetener. The sweetener normally uses condensed milk. However, this time we did not come for the Kakigori dessert but we want to try their new Japanese desserts instead. Besides shaved ice dessert, what are the new desserts here? Reads on to find out more about this Kakigori dessert bar.
KAKIGORI – Shaved Ice Dessert Bar at Taman Paramount serves yummy Japanese desserts
Kakigori’s Matcha Warabimochi is the first dessert we ordered for the night. Matcha refers to ground powder of processed green tea leaves and Warabimochi is a cool and smooth Mochi-like dessert which is jelly-like. All of us love this dessert.
Besides the Matcha Warabimochi, we also tried the Kinako Warabimochi. Kinano refers to roasted soybean flour. I personally prefer the Matcha Warabimochi, maybe because I like the taste of green tea.
Another photo of the Matcha Warabimochi before moving on to the next dessert. I highly recommend this Matcha Warabimochi if you come to visit Kakigori at Taman Paramount.
The next dessert we ordered is this sweet and warm Omugi Soup with Matcha Ice Cream. Omugi refers to the barley in Japanese. It is actually barley soup with green tea ice cream on the top. I also highly recommend to eat this dessert during cold weather. The Omugi Soup is accompanied by Matcha kanten cubes and adzuki beans. Adzuki bean is what Chinese people call as big red bean.
A closer look of the Matcha kanten cubes and adzuki beans at Kakigori Taman Paramount. The soft jelly alike texture mixes very well with the red bean and I can’t stop chewing.
After taking all the dessert photos, the Matcha ice cream is still maintaining the round shape on the Omugi Soup. Pretty amazing.
The dessert menu of Kakigori Dessert Bar
Kakigori Taman Paramount Dessert menu is displayed on the wall for easy referring. Matcha and Kinako Warabimochi at RM 14 each. Matcha Zenzai and Walnut Zenzai at RM 13 each. There are also Uji Matcha Latte and Hojicha Latte at RM 12 for hot one and RM 15 for ice blended.
At Kakigori Taman Paramount, you can also get D24 Durian Kakigori but it is seasonal. Might try this durian dessert next time if it is in season.
Spotted this Kakigori eating tips. Basically, you should take a quick shot before eating and always start from top to bottom. Then scoop up gently and make sure you eat evenly on all sides of the Kakigori.
All of the shaved ice dessert flavours available here such as Watermelon, Hojicha and Avocado. The price ranges from RM 16 to RM 19 depending on the flavour.
During this visit, we also spotted a new dessert. This is the Melon Dessert Set. It comes with White Chocolate Melon Cookies, Melon, Almond and Osmanthus Honey Daifuku. Mascarpone Melon Shortcake, Mizu Manzu and Rainbow Polka Panma Cotta are also included in this set. We wanted to try the shortcake but customers must order the whole set. Maybe next time.
One of the popular Kakigori, the Melon Milk with Greek Yogurt Cloud & Candy Balls.
The interior of Kakigori Dessert Bar
We spotted this Daruma Doll at dessert bar. Daruma Doll is a Japanese traditional doll modeled after the founder of the Zen tradition of Buddhism, Bodhidharma. Daruma is a symbol of perseverance and good luck for Japanese.
A simple cashier in Kakigori dessert bar. This is where you order and pay for your dessert. Before ordering, make sure you have found a table.
Nicely designed wall and ceiling in Kakigori.
Cute round tables and chairs are used for the customers to enjoy their desserts.
Lots of plants are planted in Kakigori. I think the ceiling is transparent for natural sun light. Do you know this dessert bar is designed by LIE (Little Ideas Everyday)?
This is where customers come and take their dessert when their number is up.
After ordering your dessert, wait for your number to be shown on this LED display to collect your dessert.
After customers enjoy their dessert, they can return the plates and others utensils here.
Look for this signboard for the location to pick up your Japanese dessert.
Free drinking water is provided here if you feel thirsty. Do feel free to take them from this big blue water bottle.
I feel Kakigori dessert bar has a unique entrance because the door is not aligned with the floor. Perhaps it is built based on Feng Shui?

Our dessert bill of the night totals up to RM 46.00 for 4 of us. This place is definitely one of our favourite places for dessert because the desserts and the service here are all awesome!
